Vicky and Joe continue their discussion about how to discover your ideal customer demographic through the use of….empathy! It is not enough to know their age, job title, and marital status. No, you need to dig deeper. You need to pull at their heartstrings, because no one buys based purely on facts alone. What does your customer do on Sunday and Monday mornings? This insight is valuable and over 90% of businesses don’t take this extra step to truly get to know their customer’s pain.

Key Takeaways:

[0:45] It’s Vicky’s birthday tomorrow!

[4:20] The more Vicky thinks about people, the more she realizes that having empathy just doesn’t happen naturally to most of us.

[9:00] Having empathy is incredibly important if you want to sell to people.

[9:25] We spend a lot of time speaking in fact, but that’s not what gets people to buy.

[12:55] You need to get into your customer’s heads.

[13:50] What does your target market do on Sunday and Monday mornings, and why?

[18:10] If your target market rides the tube every morning, well, get on the tube! This is research!

[20:10] Vicky learned an interesting lesson from the muppets.

[22:20] Don’t just ask your target audience questions, but watch them (in a non-creepy way).

[26:50] What’s the takeaway for this episode? Learn how to empathize!

Do you feel like you’re shooting in the dark when it comes to your marketing? Targeting everyone and their dog probably isn’t the best idea. It’s expensive and it can discourage you when you see a fleeting ROI. Many businesses understand the importance of knowing their demographics, but they often stop there. They don’t dive deeper; they don’t know what truly motivates someone into buying. That’s the difference between an interested crowd and a starving crowd.

Key Takeaways:

[1:25] Who is Gary Halbert?

[6:15] Who is your ideal customer? Anybody with money is the wrong answer.

[7:35] Vicky asked her subscribers what their biggest challenge was. She got a response back that was kind of ridiculous.

[11:05] Hey, by the way, Vicky would love to hear from you. Have you taken her up on her advice recently from the podcast? Write to her what your experience was like!

[13:15] Instead of spending $10k on everybody and his dog, spend $1k on advertising reaching out to a focused group.

[14:15] Think about your advertising strategy in terms of ROI, not in terms of how many people see it.

[15:05] How do you find your starving crowd?

[17:00] How does Vicky know she’s found her starving crowd?

[22:20] When you want to really discover who your starving crowd is, it boils down to actually talking to them, not looking at the statistics of whom your product is good for.

[24:10] Don’t just stop at the demographics. Dig deeper and find out what motivates them.

[25:00] Tune in next week to discover how to dig deeper and find that motivation!

Teresa Misty Mozejko is an entrepreneur and the owner of Whitby Fit Body Bootcamp and 10,000 Strong. She started her career as a brick and mortar operator, but has transitioned into copywriting. She also hosts the Breaking Bread Mastermind event. Today’s episode dives into what you’re doing wrong in copywriting and how online dating can help improve your copywriting skills.

Key Takeaways:

[2:20] Who is Misty and what is her background?

[3:55] What is Misty currently working on?

[6:40] When it comes to copywriting, different words appeal best to men vs. women.

[9:55] How can you get good at imagery in copywriting?

[12:25] Ask yourself why, and then do it again, and again, and again!

[16:10] Have a conversation with yourself (no, you’re not crazy) and see what words you use the most that can best describe you.

[19:25] How can you get the ‘call to action’ just right?

[22:40] Have you been doing any online dating lately? It’s a cesspool for copywriters.

[32:15] The next Breaking Bread Mastermind will be held in the UK!

Dear listener, do you have an opinion? Vicky hopes you do! People do not change the way they speak or interact with someone the moment they get into the office, so why should you suppress or hide your opinions when you’re an expert in your field? Having an opinion, having a stance, being a bit offensive or against the grain, gets people paying attention. Yes, they might hate you, but so what?

Key Takeaways:

[5:00] People want you to have an opinion.

[8:50] If you say something that offends someone, it’s going to be okay.

[10:55] You don’t suddenly become a different person just because you walked into your office! So, why are you suppressing yourself?

[12:10] There are so many fake people out there because they’re too afraid to be themselves.

[12:35] There’s a difference between being nice and being kind.

[13:25] Why should you ‘be you’ in business?

[17:00] There are some people who will have an opinion on everything regardless if they know it or not.

[18:20] With that being said, If you have a strong opinion about your industry or your expertise, put it out there!

[19:25] Be prepared to change your mind when presented with new information.

[25:00] Not sure where to start?

[28:55] What’s this week’s takeaway? Have an opinion and share it!

Vicky lists a couple of objections she commonly hears among business owners who are afraid to showcase their personality in their business. Are you worried that you might come off as unprofessional or too forward-facing in the business? Vicky offers suggestions on how to overcome that and bring your full, fantastic, self to work, and shine.

Key Takeaways:

[3:55] There is one thing that truly makes you different in your industry.

[5:25] It’s ‘unprofessional’ to bring your personality into marketing. Okay, so what’s ‘professional’?

[9:00] How can you bring personality into a business when you have an entire collective team behind you?

[12:55] So, who are you?

[13:20] By the way, we should all stop using plastic. This is why Vicky has been ordering beeswax wraps.

[18:50] Start with your why, start with a mission, and then find your voice.

[19:45] When you meet Vicky in person, she’s exactly the way she sounds on the podcast and in her emails.

[22:30] Why waste your time and energy trying to censor yourself?

[24:30] Put yourself into your marketing and see what happens.

[24:50] You can now pre-register for Vicky’s book, which is coming out in April!
